New surroundings

The house move is over and, like so many millions before me, I have declared “never again!”

It has taken two weeks of upheaval but we are finally getting back on our feet now, with the majority of the boxes unpacked and the items in them stored. I have an office, which has been built specially to house me and my equipment. It looks a little more spacious than my previous office but that is something of an illusion. The space is not quite all as usable as in the last house but at least here I have the advantage of more shelves, so it all works out.

I also managed to convince Jennifer to let me paint the walls green. She was dead set against me having a green screen in the office, saying I would get sick of it pretty quickly and it would look terrible anyway; so I had to change tactics in order to get it. When we were out shopping for paints, I debated with her over the merits of different colours and then we both decided a nice, light green would look very nice and bright in the office, making it somewhere pleasant to work.

Hey presto, I have a green screen!

Funnily enough, now she has seen it, Jennifer likes the colour. It’s a win, win situation. To celebrate, I recorded a new episode for the Nobmouse channel on YouTube.

Things haven’t all been fun and games, of course. I have been having issues with the writing work and that has caused a lot of stress for both Jennifer and myself. Jennifer stresses over money so I try not to worry her unduly but I have been living in my overdraft for a few weeks now thanks to problems getting editors to process the writing I have done.

I think there has been a holiday or something in the U.S. and a lot of people took time off over that period, so there was a massive backlog. Now there are payment issues so even though I am due some cash, it has not yet arrived.

We’ll see how it goes and I hope it is sorted soon but right now it is very annoying. Suffice to say I’m still working hard and when the money does finally arrive, we will be financially all set. Huzzah!

Anyway, onto more fun news. I have another law assignment due next week, which will be keeping me busy for the next couple of days. It’s all about easements and covenants, which are very interesting parts of the law so I think I’ll be enjoying these.

Well it’s time I was getting back on with work so I’ll sign off. See you later! :D

Funding a house

Saturday, February 26th, 2011

So today is one of those days when I have to work flat out again. I don’t like doing writing work over the weekend because it cuts into comic creation time but unfortunately I didn’t get enough done yesterday or on Thursday to make taking the weekend off to make comics viable.

The fact is that right now Jennifer and I are putting the money together to buy a house. We already have a substantial deposit (we will be putting up around 30-40% of the value of the house we eventually buy) but every last penny helps to get us to our goal.

Nevertheless, I have to admit that I do have a tendency to slack off from time to time when it comes to work. Yesterday was a prime example of this, with me taking a few hours out to play games when I could really have been writing more articles to make us more money.

To prevent this happening again, I have uninstalled every single game on my computer; even those silly card games that come preinstalled. That should help a lot.

I still have a little money to pay off my credit card after I paid for the final year of my law course and that will reduce my credit rating, which makes getting the mortgage we need more difficult. Banks are supposed to be lending and are making a nice show of talking about lending but when you get right down to it, they are taking any excuse not to lend. It’s very annoying but that’s what I have to work with, so the money on the credit card has to be paid off.

That is what I have been working on this week. I’m almost there. Almost. If I had done what I needed to yesterday, it would be gone by the end of today. As it stands, there is still work to be done and it looks like I’ll have to work tomorrow now, too. Oh well.

Time to get writing.

Where the magic happens (365 Days of Photography, day 3)

It has been a long and tiring week and it’s only Wednesday but I suppose that can’t be helped. I am in the process of trying to buy a house because Jenny and I have become utterly fed up with having to deal with a landlord. I wouldn’t mind too much if I had a landlord I felt was competent but I don’t and it’s probably best if I leave it at that otherwise this will turn into a very long and ranty article.

Because we’re trying to buy a house, we need to have as much capital available as possible. Consequently, I have been working my arse off writing articles for here, there and everywhere. It is paying off but it is very hard work and I have had little time for anything else. I won’t say I’ve had time for nothing because I still record a daily vlog over at zjkr due to the fact that it only takes ten minutes and it can be uploaded in the background while I work on more articles. It keeps my hand in, so to speak. I’ve also been maintaining a daily photo thing I’m calling 365 Days of Photography because, again, it takes only minutes out of my day.

I want the comics to keep running but time is short and I’ve run out of buffer. This is incredibly frustrating for me because I really don’t want them to suffer but what choice do I have? There simply aren’t enough hours in the day.

Still, with a bit of luck this will all be over with very soon. If it isn’t, at least I’ll have a larger deposit when the time finally comes to sign the necessary papers and take possession of my very own bricks & mortar. :)

Out now!
