The 'Lauren's Place' comedy club on Cookie Island

I am happy to say that, now the first law assignment of the year is over, I can get back to a proper routine. The last great millstone around my neck has been lifted! It was stressful getting it done because the recent problems with the mortgage meant I had to temporarily put my coursework aside (as well as my actual work) to sort them out. Thankfully now I’m done with it, save a little more catching-up over the next couple of days.

I ended up submitting work that was about 400 words under the word limit. This is not unusual for me because my writing style is very concise bug it does worry me. I feel like I should have included more evidence to back up my statements. If is unfortunate that I did not have the time to go through my notes again to find whether there was something more than legislation to show what I was saying was right.

Anyway, it’s done now so I can get back to working normally. As a final point, I wrote yesterday’s poem about the law assignment. I hope I captured how I felt about having to do it all so last-minute.

It is amazing how quickly a person can get used to writing in iambic pentameter. The poem flowed quite well for me and as a first draft I don’t think it is too bad. The first line is a bit clunky and I’ll definitely have to redraft it at a later date bug for now it will do.

After the assignment was done, I dropped into Second Life to see what was going on. I have the Pocket Metaverse Pro app on my iPhone for quickly logging in to chat. It’s great for that and I would recommend if to anyone who just wants to keep in touch but for anything else, it isn’t great. I attended a comedy club last night and if really did need the full-blown Second Life viewer to appreciate it, as the iPhone app lacks Voice support.

The comedy club was great however. I don’t know how regularly it runs but last night it was fantastic. You can visit it yourself by clicking here (SL required, of course – I wish their web version worked).

Today it us back to my routine of comics, writing and studying so I had better get to it! See you later!

The Deadline

Tuesday, April 5th, 2011
This entry is part 5 of 5 in the series Poetry Month Poems 2011

Textbooks, reference material, all around.
Towering above a desk that buckles
Beneath the weight of notes and empty mugs
The day passes by in a blur, unseen.
Just four more hours to the dreaded deadline
Then three, then two, oh no! Now it is here.
Where did all the time go? Oh yes, that’s right
It slipped away into the night while I
Looked in vain for non-existant case law.
So now, with heart attempting an escape,
I press ‘submit’, beginning the torment
That comes with waiting for my tutor’s mark
It’s worth ten percent of my total grade
And every little point makes a difference.
Maybe I should have read English instead?

The common law, it favours clarity
But it was burdened by rigidity
And so the King created equity
He said this new law will set you all free
If the common law will not hear your plea
Then turn instead to Courts of Chancery
Perhaps here the judge will tend to your needs
But note: clear of all sin your hands must be
If you are to succeed in equity
